Tennessean at Pebble Beach

Congratulations to Bill Akin of Hermitage Tennessee. Mr. Akin showed his 1953 Kurtis Kraft KK 500B “Bardahl Special” at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance last August. Mr. Akin won first place in the open wheeled racecar class “W”. The Bardahl car also won the Tony Hulman Trophy for historically significant in open wheel racing.

Louvered Hat Bill

This weekend in between chores and hitting the Tennessee Speed Sport Run I was able to pop riviot an old [mid 80’s] louvered hat bill to my Circa hat. Does anyone remember these things?

Norm at the 2009 Buckethead Bash

Norm was the guest of honor at the pre- event party at BC’s. As usual Norm greeted all as old friends and dropped a freestyle rap on all.

This is a video glimpse into the Spirit Industries “Family & Friends” dinner held at the new manufacturing plant on 201 North in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

This week is the celebration of the Open House for Spirit Cars as well as the “Buckethead Bash” national meet n’ greet held annually in Mountain Home.

The area is full of hot rods, causing heads to turn with every pass of bright colors and roaring engines.

The Bucketheads will be here through Saturday, with a big show on the Baxter County Fairgrounds starting at 9AM Saturday morning.

The History of the Rumspville Roadster Pt.1

When a hot rod has been on the road for 30 years, remained unchanged and has been handed down from father to son, there have to be a story to be told.

The Rumpsville Roadster was built by my father in 1980. He had several project cars leading up to this car. The chassis was set up several years prior, featuring a traditional split wishbone, nine inch ford rear-end supporting the chassis with a 1940 ford buggy spring and late 50s manual brakes with a large lug pattern all the way around.

By 1982 the car was in Austin and on the road. Making most of the runs in central Texas over the next 8 years, the car would pop up in Street Rodder magazine, Street Scene magazine, automotive TV commercials, calendars and music videos.

April89.jpgPrior to the Continental Club’s large presents as Austin’s hang out for rodders, a common hang out was a place on the drag called Dirty’s.

Note: The music video link is Asleep at the Wheel’s Hotrod Lincoln music video filmed at Dirty’s and featured local cars including the Rumpsville roadster and my father in a gimme hat. More to come.
